Xenon Lamp, Dipped Beam, Replace

Caution

High voltage! Do not touch the components of the xenon dipped beam when the dipped beam is switched on. Ignition and light switch OFF. Remove fuses F22 and F31 in interior fuse box.

  Remove

Up to MY 2000: For left headlamp – remove battery. For right headlamp – air cleaner housing – see operation "Air Cleaner Housing, Remove and Install" in group "J".

As of MY 2000: headlamp with xenon dipped beam – see operation "Headlamp with Xenon Dipped Beam, Remove and Install (as of MY 2000)".

Unscrew three torx bolts (1) in the bulb protective cap (4) and push protective cap with high voltage grommet away from bulb socket (2).

Release high-voltage plug (3) by turning to left and disconnect. Release lamp fastening ring (5) by turning to left and remove. Replace xenon lamp (6).

  Install

Lamp fastening ring, high-voltage plug, lamp cover with high-voltage grommet.

Up to MY 2000: battery or air cleaner housing.

As of MY 2000: headlamp with xenon dipped beam.

Fuses.

Check headlamp adjustment, correct if necessary.

Dispose of defective xenon lamp according to national disposal legislation.
