The Opel/Vauxhall Checking System

The Opel/Vauxhall checking system is based on a technical checking concept developed by Opel/Vauxhall for fault recognition and localisation in electronic vehicle systems.

Vehicle systems whose control units feature self-diagnosis and a serial data lead to the diagnostic plug can be checked for the cause of the fault with TECH 1 in conjunction with the relevant program module. Communication for diagnosis purposes is possible not only from the control unit to TECH 1 (e.g. F2:TROUBLE CODE, F0:DATA LIST) but also in the opposite direction (e.g. F5:ACTUATOR TEST, F6:ADJUSTMENTS).

There is a detailed description of all the functions supported by TECH 1 in the TECH 1 Operating Instructions, which are supplied along with the Opel/Vauxhall Omega-B 1994 ECU program module.

The target of each check is the localisation of the fault (e.g. switch, lead, sensor, control unit), i.e. the part which is to be replaced or repaired. For all vehicle systems, this is achieved using the trouble-shooting instructions in these Checking Procedures and, if necessary, using Multimeter MKM-587-A and Electronic-Kit KM-609. The specified sequence for the individual test steps is an important element of the diagnosis concept and must therefore always be observed precisely. Deviations can lead to incorrect diagnosis.
