Field Remedy: 1410

Subject: Side Airbag - Light comes on, TC 77/87
Models: Engines: Option:
Corsa-B 1998...,Astra-G 1998...,Zafira 1998...,Vectra-B 1998...,Omega-B 1998... All,All,All,All,All
Complaint: Airbag control lamp lights up.
Cause: Contact problems on wiring harness connector of restrained system below the seat.
Production:

Remedy:


In case of customer complaint crimp the wiring harness in the wiring
harness connector of the restraint system with each other.



Pay attention to the safty regulations restraint systems. Repairs are 
allowed in this exeptional case diverged from the existing safty 
regulations.


Note:


     Use cable stripper MKM-6383 while stripping cables of restraint
     system to avoid damages of copper wires.



     Crimp only the side of cable ends of the restrained system 
     together, which TC was stored in airbag control unit.


Working Procedure:


 1. Disconnect battery.


Note:


    Wait one minute until the capacitor is completely discharged.



 2. Separate the upholstery cover from the front seat back rest,
    unlock and disconnect the side airbag wiring harness plug
    (Picture I).

 3. Unlock and disconnect the front seat wiring harness connector.



    At Corsa-B resolve front seat and expose plug-in connection  
    under seat console 



    - see working procedure "Front seat, remove and install", group
      "C", Service Instruction Corsa-B. 



    At Omega-B remove front and rear outer panelling and unlock  
    and disconnect wiring harness connector seat 



    - see working procedure "Front Seat, Remove and Install 
      (as of Model Year '98)", group "C", Service Instruction Omega-B.



 4. Strip the wiring harness insulation (Picture II).

 5. Disconnect the airbag wiring harness from the wiring harness
    connector (Picture III).


Note:


    Note the individual cable colors at the wiring harness connector
    in order to avoid mistakes during crimping.

 6. Strip about appr. 10 mm of the cables.


Note:


    Use cable stripper MKM-6383.



 7. Push shrink sleeve over the cable.



 8. Crimp the noted cable ends with crimp tool MKM-923-34 (Picture IV).

 9. Disconnect the restraint system wiring harness from the wiring 
    harness connector (see Picture III).


Note:


    Note the individual cable colors at the wiring harness 
    connector in order to avoid mistakes during crimping.



10. Strip about appr. 10 mm of the cables.


Note:


    Use cable stripper MKM-6383.



11. Push shrink sleeve over the cables.



12. Crimp the noted cable ends with crimp tool MKM-923-34 
    (see Picture IV). 



13. Heat up the shrink sleeve over the crimped area (Picture V).

16. Insulate the wiring harness and lay it into the grooved tube.
    Lead the connected cables under the wiring harness connector
    housing along and fix it with cable strap on shown place 
    (Picture VI, shaded line).

17. Connect and secure the front seat wiring harness connector
    (Picture VII).



    At Corsa-B fix front seat 



    - see working procedure "Front seat, remove and install",
      group "C", Service Instruction Corsa-B.



    At Omega-B install front and rear outer panelling 



    - see working procedure "Front Seat, Remove and Install
      (as of Model Year '98)", group "C", Service Instruction Omega-B.

18. Connect and secure the side airbag wiring harness connector
    and fix the upholstery cover to the front seat back rest.



19. Check free currency of wiring harness by adjusting the seat.


Note:


    On vehicles where the TC's for both sides of the restrained 
    system are stored in airbag control unit, carry out work steps 
    "2" to "19" also on the respective other side.



20. Connect battery.



21. Program volatile memories.



22. Check and delete trouble codes with Tech 2.

3 years and a mileage lower than 100.000 Km.
The regular warranty procedure should be used for claiming Set-up-time.
