Test requirements

Battery Voltage OK.
Test sequence
-
Switch OFF ignition.
-
Connect VAG 1598/22 (or 1598/31) Test Box to ECM wiring harness.
-
Bridge sockets with jumper wires from VW 1594 kit.
-
Up to MY 1999: sockets 33 + 1
-
From 2000: sockets 18 + 4
-
Measure Voltage between following sockets:
-
Up to MY 1999: sockets 2 + 1, 28 + 1 ,27 + 2 and 28 + 27
-
From 2000: sockets 1 + 4, 2 + 4 , 1 + 5 , 2 + 5
-
Specification: approx. battery Voltage
If specification not obtained
-
Check power supply relay -J31-, terminal 30.
-
J317 located on fuse relay panel above the central electric.
-
Check wiring for open circuit, short circuit and transfer resistance at terminals using Wiring diagram.
If wiring and relay OK
-
Replace Engine Control Module -J248-.
With Generic Scan Tool
Voltage supply for Diesel-Direct Fuel Injection System, checking
