Subject: Secure Side Airbag Wiring (BX)

Condition

The wiring connected to the side airbags is not fastened down in vehicles within VIN range 3VW_B61C_WM000320 and 3VW_B61C_WM024505

Service

Check routing of wires and install securing guide. Correct vehicles in inventory prior to retail sale. Correct sold vehicle during the next scheduled
maintenance or repair service as follows:

-

Remove screw trim cover -2- on driver's seat.

-

Remove screw -3-

-

Partially remove inner lower seat trim to access screw -4-.

-

Remove screw -4-.

-

Gently pull outer lower seat trim -5- near retaining clip -6- outward being careful not to damage retaining clip.

-

Completely remove outer lower seat trim -5-.

NOTE: Seat height adjustment handle has been removed for illustration purpose only.

Check if guide -2- has been installed.

If guide is already installed:

-

Reinstall trim parts in reverse order of removal.

If guide is not installed

-

Open hood and disconnect the battery ground cable from the battery.

-

Carefully pry out plastic clip -1-.

-

Carefully cut plastic strap to free airbag wire and (if equipped) the backrest heating wire.

-

Check wire insulation:
If insulation is okay, install position guide as described below - If insulation is not okay, Contact Technical Helpline for instructions.

Install new guide -2- Part No: 1J0 971 446 B/C as follows:

-

Position guide -2-, but do not push into place.

-

Install wire into guide -2- and close retaining clip -1-.

-

Push guide into place.

-

Ensure proper position of retaining clip.

-

Reinstall seat trim in reverse order of removal.
