Ball Joint: Testing and Inspection

Ball Joint, Checking

 
Checking axial play 

- Forcibly pull ball joint down and press up again.

Checking radial play 

- Press lower part of wheel forcefully outward and inward.

Notes:

-

There must not be any perceptible "play" as a result of either of these checks.

Observe the ball joint during checks.

-

Take into account any possible existing wheel bearing play, or play in the upper suspension strut mount.

Check the ball joint rubber boot for damage, and replace the ball joint if necessary.
