Flanged Shaft Oil Seals, Replacing (Transmission Installed) 
 

Observe general repair instructions.

Special tools 

-

VW 771 Slide hammer

-

771/37 Puller hooks

-

3106 Drift

Removing 
 

Before replacing left side oil seal:
-

Remove axle shaft.

Before replacing right side oil seal:
-

Turn steering to right onto full lock stop.

-

Remove right inner constant velocity joint protective cover from engine if installed.

-

Disconnect axle7 shaft from flange shaft.

-

Tie up axle shaft as high as possible using care not to damage axle shaft painted surface.

-

Place drip tray under transmission.

-

Remove flange shaft cone-head bolt.

-

Remove flanged shaft with spring.
