Exhaust Manifold: Service and Repair
Exhaust Manifold, Removing and Installing
Exhaust manifold, removing and installing
Special tools and equipment
^
VAG1331 Torque wrench 5 to 50 Nm (3.7 to 37 ft. lbs.), or equivalent
Removing
-
Remove engine cover.
-
Remove intake hose.
-
Remove pressure and vacuum hoses from combi-valve.
-
Remove connector pipe from combi-valve and exhaust manifold.
-
Remove warm air collector plate.
-
Remove right hand inner CV joint protective cover.
-
Disconnect right drive shaft from transmission.
-
Remove protective cover -arrows- and disconnect (black) connector -1for heated oxygen sensor (H02S) -G39
For Engine Code AEG the black connector has 4 pins.
For Engine Code AVH, AZG the black connector has 6 pins.

Remove oxygen sensor 1 -G39- wiring retainers.

Remove front exhaust pipe with catalyst and bracket.

Remove exhaust manifold by removing lower nuts from below and upper nuts from above.
Installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse sequence, when doing this note the following:

Always replace all seals and self-locking nuts

Tightening torques, Refer to Exhaust Manifold, Service and Repair
^
Drive shaft to transmission: 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.)

Check Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory:

Display Readiness code:
Refer to Powertrain Management

Readiness code must be reset if ECM is subject to low voltage with ignition ON or if Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory is erased.
