Control Module identification and coding are displayed on the VAG 1551 display as shown in example

06A 906 018 AB = Engine Control Module Part No. (always see parts catalog for latest version)

Motronic = System identification

-

M5.9.2 = System version

-

HS = Manual transmission
AT = Automatic transmission

-

V06 = Program level number

-

Coding xxxxx = Control Module coding

WSC xxxxx = Workshop code from VAG 1551, of workshop who performed last coding. (If factory coding has not been changed, WSC 00000
appears)

NOTE:  Replace the Control Module if the displayed version does not correspond with vehicle.

An incorrectly coded Engine Control Module leads to:

-

Engine running malfunctions (shift jerks, load change, etc.)

-

Increased fuel consumption

-

Increased exhaust gas emissions

-

Malfunctions stored in DTC memory that do not really exist.

Certain functions will not be performed (Oxygen sensor regulation, activation of the Evaporative emissions system).

Reduced transmission life

If coding differs from vehicle version
