Electronic Throttle Control Module: Testing and Inspection
Throttle Valve Drive and Drive Angle Sensor, Checking

Checking Throttle Valve Drive And Throttle Valve Drive Angle Sensor

Test conditions

Coolant temperature must be at least 85 degree C, see display group 04, display zone 3.

Test sequence

Connect VAG 1551 Scan Tool ((VAG 1552). Start engine and select "Address word" 01 of engine control module. When doing this engine must
be running at idle speed. (Connecting scan tool and selecting engine control module See: Testing and Inspection/Reading and Clearing Diagnostic
Trouble Codes/Scan Tool Connecting/With Manufacturer's Scan Tool/Connecting VAG Scan Tool 1551/1552).

Indicated on display

Rapid data transfer

HELP

Select function XX

-

Press keys 0 and 8 for function "Read Measuring Value Block" and confirm entry with Q key.

Indicated on display:

Read Measuring Value Block

Input display group number XXX

Press keys 0, 6 and 0 for "Display group number 60" and confirm entry with Q key.

Indicated on display: (1 to 4 = Display zones)

Check the operating mode in display zone 3:
Idle speed

-

Check throttle valve angle in at idling stop in display zone 1
Specification: 0 to 6 angle degree

-

Check throttle valve positioner at idling stop in display zone 2.
Specification: 60 to 90%

If the specifications are not attained:

-

Press -> key.

-

Press keys 0 and 6 for "End data transfer" function and confirm input with Q key.

-

Switch ignition off.

-

Pull 8 pin connector off throttle valve control module.

-

Measure resistance of throttle valve positioner between following contacts:
Contact 1 + 2
Specification: 3 to 200 Ohm

If the specification is not obtained:

-

Replace throttle valve control module -J338-.
