Auxiliary Air Valve (Idle Speed): Testing and Inspection

1.

Disconnect ignition coil wire and connect to ground using a jumper wire.

2.

Disconnect auxiliary air regulator electrical connector and connect to a suitable test lamp.

3.

Crank starter motor, test lamp must illuminate.

4.

If test lamp does not illuminate, check for open circuit using wiring circuits. Function Test

1.

Ensure engine coolant temperature is below 86°F and ignition switch is not in On position (to prevent heating of element in auxiliary air regulator)
prior to test.

2.

Disconnect auxiliary air regulator electrical connector, then start engine and allow to idle.

3.

Pinch hose between regulator and intake manifold. Engine RPM must drop.

4.

Repeat test with warm engine and regulator electrical connector connected. Engine RPM must not change when hose is pinched.

5.

If RPM changes, replace auxiliary air regulator.
