Cold Start Valve: Testing and Inspection

1.

Ensure coolant temperature is below 86°F and thermo-time switch functions properly.

Remove coil wire from distributor cap and connect to ground.

3.

Remove cold start valve with fuel line and electrical connector connected and point nozzle into suitable container.

4.

Operate starter for 10 seconds.

5.

With engine cold, cold start valve should spray fuel steadily for period controlled by thermo-time switch in a cone shaped pattern, then stop
spraying steadily but repeat spraying in pulses.

6.

With engine hot, after 2 seconds cold start valve should spray fuel, then stop spraying steadily but repeat spraying in pulses.

7.

Pulse relay supplies current to cold start valve during cranking of engine. If during test, fuel is not sprayed in pulses, check cold start valve with
test light for electrical pulses.

8.

If test light pulses (flashes on and off), replace cold start valve. If test light does not pulse, check relay and related wiring.

9.

Wipe nozzle with clean rag and ensure no drops form within one minute.

10.

If cold start valve drips, replace cold start valve.
