Fuel Pump Relay: Testing and Inspection

1.

Ensure fuse No. 5 is in satisfactory condition, then disconnect hall sender electrical connector from distributor.

2.

Remove fuel pump relay from fuse/relay panel.

3.

Turn ignition switch to On position, then check voltage at the following terminals using multimeter tool No. US 1119 or equivalent:

a. Between terminal 2 and ground, Fig. 1.
b. Between terminal 2 and 1.
c. Between terminal 4 and 1.

Approximately 12 volts must be obtained on all checks, if necessary locate and repair malfunctions using wiring circuits.

Connect multimeter between terminals 5 and 1, approximately 12 volts must be measured.

6.

Touch center wire of distributor electrical connector to ground briefly, indicated voltage must drop briefly.

7.

If voltage drops, replace fuel pump relay or check Hall sender.

8.

If voltage does not drop, check Hall control unit, and if necessary, locate fault in wiring using wiring circuits and repair.
