Air Flow Meter/Sensor: Testing and Inspection

1.

Remove rubber boot from air flow sensor, then crank starter motor for approximately 10 seconds.

2.

Ensure sensor plate is centered in air cone, if not, center plate by running .004 inch feeler gauge around perimeter of air gap with bolt slightly
loosened, then torque bolt to 40--60 inch lbs.

3.

Lift sensor plate with magnet, even resistance must be felt over entire travel of sensor plate lever and control plunger.

4.

Move sensor plate quickly from raised to rest position, no resistance must be felt.

5.

If resistance is felt, replace air flow sensor.

6.

If sensor plate lever is hard to move upward but moves freely downward, control plunger is sticking, replace fuel distributor.
