Hall Effect Sensor: Testing and Inspection

    Testing is required only if ignition spark is not present.

1.

Disconnect Hall control unit connector (located in glove compartment), then connect LED tester tool No. US 1115 or equivalent, to connector
terminals No. 4 and 6. Terminal designations are 1 through 7, left to right. Do not use a standard test lamp having an electric bulb. The high
electrical consumption of this type of test lamp can damage the electrical components.

Crank starter and check signal from Hall sender.

If LED tester flickers, Hall sender is satisfactory and test is complete.

If LED tester does not flicker, proceed as follows:

a. Disconnect Hall sender connector (on distributor).
b. Connect LED tester to connector terminals, then turn ignition on and check supply voltage from electronic ignition control unit to Hall

sender.

c. LED tester should illuminate.
d. Push up rubber sleeve on Hall sender connector, then connect LED tester to center terminal of Hall sender connector and to battery positive

terminal.

e. Crank starter and check signal from Hall sender. If LED tester flickers, Hall sender is satisfactory.
f.

If LED tester does not flicker, Hall sender or ignition control unit is defective.
