Tip: If programming disc is loaded and software level is 218 or greater. An error screen may appear. If this occurs press okay. The error screen
does not indicate a technical concern with the Comfort System Central Control Module -J393-.

Updating Software Level

Tip: For software programming to execute properly, vehicle battery must be maintained by an approved VW battery charger/maintainer. Failure to
comply with these guidelines may result in software programming failure.

1. Connect approved VW battery charger/maintainer to vehicle battery.
2. Insert update programming CD, Literature No. W42INSTKUPDATECD, into VAS tester.
3. Turn vehicle ignition to ON position.
4. Activate Vehicle Self Diagnosis from VAS tester and select "On Board Diagnostic (OBD)".
5. Enter diagnostic address "46- Central Module Comfort System".
6. Select "Display all diagnostic functions".
7. Select "Update Programming".
8. Follow instructions for flashing procedure.

9. When flashing procedure is finished a screen appears showing successful programming, -arrow-. Press the forward arrow button to continue.

10. An option will appear to erase DTC memories. Remove the flash CD at this point and skip this procedure by pressing the back arrow button,

Tip: If you do not remove the flash CD from the drive a message box will appear stating: "A malfunction occurred when evaluating the control
table or the data container. Update programming is not possible". You may ignore this error by pressing okay as it is not a technical problem with
the scan tool, comfort module or vehicle.

11. Select option "007 - Coding (Service 1A)", -arrow-.

12. Select Comfort Module by highlighting and then selecting the forward arrow button, -arrow-.
