Balance Shaft: Service and Repair
Exhaust Camshaft Balance Shaft

Exhaust Camshaft Balance Shaft

  Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

‹› Puller (T10394)

‹› Puller (T10055)

  ‹› Always replace the balance shaft after removing it.

Removing

-

Remove the upper timing chain cover. Refer to => [ Upper Timing Chain Cover ] See: Timing Components/Timing Cover/Service and
Repair/Upper Timing Chain Cover.

Remove the lower timing chain cover, refer to one of the following:

‹› GTI and Eos, refer to => [ Lower Timing Chain Cover ] See: Timing Components/Timing Cover/Service and Repair/Lower Timing Chain Cover.

Remove the camshaft timing chain. Refer to => [ Camshaft Timing Chain ] See: Timing Components/Timing Chain/Service and Repair/Camshaft
Timing Chain.

Remove the balance shaft timing chain. Refer to => [ Balance Shaft Timing Chain ] See: Balance Shaft Chain/Service and Repair/Balance Shaft
Timing Chain.

Remove the bolt - 1 - and the balance shaft.

If the balance shaft cannot be removed by hand, use the puller (T10394).

Install the (T10394/1) from (T10394).
