Balance Shaft: Service and Repair
Intake Camshaft Balance Shaft

Intake Camshaft Balance Shaft

  Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

‹› Puller (T10394)

‹› Puller (T10055)

  ‹› Always replace the balance shaft after removing it.

Removing

-

Remove the upper timing chain cover. Refer to => [ Upper Timing Chain Cover ] See: Timing Cover/Service and Repair/Upper Timing Chain
Cover.

Remove the lower timing chain cover, refer to one of the following:

  ‹› Passat and CC, refer to => [ Lower Timing Chain Cover ] See: Timing Cover/Service and Repair/Lower Timing Chain Cover.

‹› GTI and Eos, refer to => [ Lower Timing Chain Cover ] See: Timing Cover/Service and Repair/Lower Timing Chain Cover.

‹› Tiguan, refer to => [ Lower Timing Chain Cover ] See: Timing Cover/Service and Repair/Lower Timing Chain Cover.

Remove the camshaft timing chain. Refer to => [ Camshaft Timing Chain ] See: Timing Chain/Service and Repair/Camshaft Timing Chain.

Remove the balance shaft timing chain. Refer to => [ Balance Shaft Timing Chain ] See: Balance Shaft Chain/Service and Repair/Balance Shaft
Timing Chain.

Remove the coolant pump toothed belt. Refer to => [ Coolant Pump Toothed Belt ] See: Water Pump/Service and Repair/Removal and
Replacement/Coolant Pump Toothed Belt.

Remove the intermediate sprocket bolt - 1 -.

Remove the bolt - 2 - for the intake camshaft balance shaft and remove the balance shaft.
