The specific ambient conditions or activation signals must be present. The heating and ventilation operation continues to be controlled electronically. ‹› The ECON button is deleted. It is replaced by the AC button. The ON/OFF button is deleted. Replaced by the OFF button. ‹› When the AC button is activated, the A/C compressor is switched on. The specific ambient conditions or activation signals must be present. The heating and ventilation operation continues to be controlled electronically. ‹› If the AC button is deactivated, the compressor is set to almost no delivery. The specific ambient conditions or activation signals must be present. The heating and ventilation operation continues to be controlled electronically. ‹› When the ON/OFF button is activated, the Climatronic works. ‹› When the ON/OFF button is deactivated, the Climatronic is not working. There is no heating or ventilation. ‹› OFF button activated. Climatronic is switched off. There is no heating or ventilation. ‹› OFF button deactivated. Climatronic is switched on. ‹› If there is a malfunction in the system, first check DTC memory. Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing & info. System (VAS 5051B) (or succeeding model) in "Guided Fault Finding". Air Quality Sensor Function ‹› Sensor for air quality detects pollutants in the ambient air (mostly gasoline and/or diesel fumes). ‹› Climatronic Control Module (J255) evaluates signal from Air Quality Sensor (G238). The A/C system is activated depending on the strength and type of heavily polluted air. At an outside temperature greater than approximately + 2° C (36 °F) recirculation mode switches on when there is only a slight increase in the level of At an outside temperature between approximately + 2 °C and -5 C°, the system only switches to recirculation mode when there is a strong increase in At an outside temperature less than approximately -5 C°, the system still only changes to recirculation mode when there is a strong increase in the level ‹› The function "Automatic air recirculation" can be switched off at any time. If the function is active and a request for "Automatic air recirculation" is present the A/C compressor is also switched on when outside temperatures are smaller than +2°. A/C compressor operation is not possible with ‹› On vehicles with "automatic recirculation", A/C compressor can also be switched on up to a temperature of approximately -5° C when recirculated air was manually switched on. ‹› To ensure that the A/C does not operate constantly in the recirculating air mode in areas with a consistently higher pollution, the sensor is self-adapting (it adjusts its sensitivity to the environmental conditions). ‹› If outside air pollution load remains high for longer period of time, the sensor starts to adapt itself to the changing environmental condition through an adaptation program (learning program), the air recirculation request in evenly polluted ambient air is therefore generally shorter than 12 ‹› A certain amount of time is required for repositioning of the air conditioning system doors.
