Shift Cable: Adjustments

Selector Lever Cable Adjusting, through 02.2009

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

‹› Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)

Selector lever cable must always be adjusted if:

‹› The selector lever cable was removed from the transmission.

‹› The engine and/or transmission were removed and installed.

‹› Parts of engine/transmission mount were removed and installed.

‹› The cable or shift mechanism were removed and installed.

‹› The engine/transmission positions were changed, for example, installed free of tension.

Adjusting

-

Shift the selector lever in the vehicle to the "P" position. 

Shift lever on the transmission in the "P" position. 

Lever on transmission must be pressed all the way back.

If there is any uncertainty:

-

Pull the lever all the way forward.

-

Press the lever back.

"P" is the second detent.

Install the cable with a loosened adjustment bolt - arrow  - and new lock washers - A and B -.
