Electrical Testing Instructions and Requirements

ELECTRICAL TESTING

-

Perform only the recommended test steps listed in the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Charts and Scan Data Value Tables (targeted entry).

Perform all the measures stated in the column "Corrective Action".

-

Use the hand-held multimeter VAG 1526 (or equivalent) for testing.

-

The specified values are valid for an ambient temperature from 0°C - 40°C.

-

If the readings obtained differ from the specified values, determine malfunction on the basis of the wiring diagrams.

-

If the readings obtained differ only slightly from the specified values, clean sockets and connectors of the test equipment and test leads and repeat
test. Before replacing the particular components, test wiring and connections and, particularly if specified values are below 10 ohms, repeat the
resistance measurement on component.

-

Use test box VAG 1598 with adapter lead VAG 1598/9 and auxiliary leads from VAG 1594 for connecting the test equipment.

-

The contact numbers of the connector and the socket numbers of the test box VAG 1598 are identical.

CAUTION!  To avoid damage to the electrical components, select the appropriate measuring range at the tester before connecting the test leads.

Test Requirements:

Battery Positive Voltage (B+) OK.

^

Fuses 14 (S14) and 21 (S21) OK.

^

Ground (GND) connections OK:

-

The GND connection point is located on the left next to the relay plate.

-

Check battery GND strap and GND strap between battery and transmission.

Switch OFF ignition for all test steps, unplug multi-pin connector from Transmission Control Module (TCM) -J217- and connect the test box
VAG 1598 to connector of wiring harness using adapter VAG 1598/9.

-

The Transmission Control Module (TCM) -J217- is located in right-hand footwell on A pillar.

Voltage Measurement:

VAG 1598/9 adapter cables connected to Transmission Control Module.

Resistance measurement:

^

VAG 1598/9 adapter cables disconnected to Transmission Control Module.

^

If the readings obtained differ from the specified values, perform for corrective actions in right-hand part of Electrical Test Table.
