Idle Speed: Adjustments

Idle and Maximum Speeds (No Load), Adjusting

Requirements

-

Cold start accelerator cable must not be pulled out

-

All electrical consumers switched OFF

-

Engine oil temperature 60 °C (140 °F) minimum

Measure engine speed using VAG 1367 ignition tester using TDC sensor or VW 1324 adaptor

Residual volume adjusting screw

Maximum speed adjusting screw

Adjust idle speed using idle speed adjusting screw -1-

specification: 850 ± 50 rpm

-

Lock idle speed adjusting screw

Maximum speed (no load)

-

Open throttle wide open and adjust maximum engine speed using maximum speed adjusting screw -3-
-

specification: 4800 ± 100 rpm

-

Lock maximum speed adjusting screw -3-

Residual volume adjusting screw

NOTE:  The residual volume adjusting screw -2- is secured with an anti-tamper cap and must normally not be adjusted.

The residual volume is set using this screw by the manufacturer on a test bench.
