Notes:

Before removing crankshaft, prepare for appropriate storage, so that sensor wheel (item 6) does not make contact or become damaged.

For performing repair work, secure engine to VW313 assembly stand using 3269 or VW540 holding fixture together with VW54011B auxiliary
pieces.

When replacing bearing shells, only use bearing shells of the same manufacturer.
1. Bearing caps
-
Bearing cap 1: Harmonic balancer side

Bearing cap 5 with grooves for thrust washers
-
Retaining tabs for engine block/bearing cover must align
2. Bolt: Tighten to 30 Nm + 1/2 rotation (180 °) additional

Always replace Main Bearing cap bolts
3. Bearing shell 1 to 7

For bearing cap without lubrication groove
-
For engine block with lubrication groove
-
Do not interchange run-in connecting rod bearing shells (mark)
4. Thrust washer
