Canister Purge Solenoid: Testing and Inspection
Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Solenoid Valve -N115-, Checking
With no voltage applied, solenoid valve is open.
Special tools and equipment

Fluke 83 Multimeter
-
VAG 1527 B Voltage tester
Function check
VAG 1551/1552 remains connected.
-
Switch ignition ON.
Check activation:
-
Remove cover at center below instrument panel.
-
Initiate Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM)
During DTM, Control Module for Fuel System Diagnosis -J490- and Leak Detection Pump (LDP) are triggered.
-
Disconnect control module -J490- -arrow- from relay position at center of instrument panel.
-
With VAG 1527 B Voltage tester check voltage between connector terminals 2+4.
-
Diode must light up.
-
With VAG 1527 B Voltage tester check voltage between connector terminals 2+6.
-
Diode must blink.
-
Continue Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) to the end.
-
Press buttons -0- and -6- for function "End Output". Press -Q- button to confirm input.

Switch ignition OFF.
-
Connect Fluke 83 Multimeter for . resistance check between connector terminals 2+8 and check wiring of EVAP Canister Purge Solenoid Valve
-N115-.
-
Specified value: 15 to 35 Ohm
If specified value was not obtained:
-
Reinstall control module -J490-.
If leak check diagnosis cannot be started:
-
Check EVAP Canister Purge Solenoid.Valve -N115- mechanical function.
To check solenoid valve lower or remove fuel tank.

Initiate Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) again and select EVAP Canister Purge Solenoid Valve -N115-
-
Install hose on connector at valve and blow into hose.
-
Valve must be closed.
-
End Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM).
-
After about 30 seconds valve must open.
