Electronic Throttle Control Module: Testing and Inspection

Throttle Valve Control Module, Checking

NOTE:  You must perform Function 04 "Basic setting" if the Throttle Valve Control Module -J338- is removed, installed or replaced. 

Special tools and equipment

-

VAG 1551/1552 Scan Tool using VAG 1551/3 adapter cable

-

VAG 1598/18 Test Box

-

Fluke 83 multimeter (or equivalent)

-

VW 1594 Adapter kit

-

Wiring diagram

Voltage supply, checking

-

Disconnect 8-pin Throttle Valve Control Module connector

-

Switch Fluke 83 multimeter to 20 Volts range.

-

Connect multimeter between harness connector terminals 3 + 7 using jumper wires from VW 1594 adapter kit

-

Switch ignition on.
-

specification: 9.0 to 14.5 Volts

-

Connect multimeter between harness connector terminals 4 + 7.
-

specification: 4.0 to 6.0 Volts

-

Switch ignition off.

If specifications not obtained:

-

Connect VAG 1598/18 Test Box to ECM wiring harness
