Notes:

• ◆ Locking cable must not be kinked.
• ◆ Adjust locking cable after installing .

→ Installation position of locking cable

Removing

• ‒ Remove selector lever handle.
• ‒ Remove cover with cover strip.
• ‒ On vehicles with programme switch pull connector off programme switch.

• ‒ Remove central console.

=> General body repairs; Repair Group 70.

• ‒ Loosen cable anchorage screw -a-, take locking cable out of locking lever and pull out of cable anchorage.

• ‒ Remove steering wheel and ignition/starter switch trim.

=> Running gear; Repair group 48; Assembly overview: Steering column, column tube, steering wheel and steering wheel with airbag; Removing and installing airbag steering wheel

=> Electrical system; Repair group 94; Servicing steering column switch

• ‒ Press locking cable clip out of ignition/starter switch support bracket and remove locking cable from ball head.
• ‒ Take out locking cable.

Installing

Note:

Ensure proper routing of locking cable when installing.

• ‒ → Fit locking cable in vehicle.

• ‒ → Mount locking cable eye -1- on locking lever -a-.

• ‒ → Install locking cable in cable anchorage.
• ‒ Do not tighten screw -a- until after adjusting locking cable.

• ‒ → Mount locking cable clip on locking cable first.
• ‒ Press locking cable onto ball head.
• ‒ Press locking cable with clip into ignition/starter switch support bracket.

• ‒ → Route locking cable along steering column.
• ‒ Adjust locking cable on cable anchorage of selector lever => Page 37-40.
• ‒ Install central console.
• ‒ Install cover with indicator and selector lever handle.
• ‒ Attach trim pieces of ignition/starter switch and install steering wheel.
