Checking fuel tank venting > < Repairing parts of activated charcoal filter system

When not energised the solenoid valve is closed.
Checking activation: → Rep. Gr.01.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Fault reader -V.A.G 1551- or vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552- or vehicle diagnosis and service information system -VAS 5052-
t  Diagnosis cable -V.A.G 1551/3-
  Note
Instead of fault reader -V.A.G 1551-, the vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552- or vehicle diagnosis and service information system -VAS 5052- can be used. However, a print-out of the results is not possible.
Test prerequisites
l  Coolant temperature must be at least 60 °C.
   
l  Fuse 43 must be OK.
Functional check
–  Connect fault reader -V.A.G 1551- or vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552- or vehicle diagnosis and service information system -VAS 5052-. Then start the engine and select the engine control unit with “Address word” 01. Connecting fault reader and selecting engine control unit: → Rep. Gr.01.

Indicated on display:
–  Press keys 0 and 8 for function “Read measured value block” and confirm entry with Q key.

–  Press keys 07 and 0 for “Display group number 70” and confirm entry with Q key.

–  Press key 4 for function “Basic setting” (“tank vent valve diagnosis” will be initiated)
  Note
During the diagnosis, no load should be placed on the engine as otherwise the diagnosis will be cancelled and can only be initiated again after revving up (in one short, sharp movement).

Once diagnosis is initiated by the engine control unit, the reading in display zone 4 will jump from “Test OFF” to “Test ON”.
–  Leave engine running at idle until there is a reading in display zone 4 showing the result of the short test. Specification: “TVV OK”.
  Note
TVV means tank vent valve (activated charcoal filter system solenoid valve 1 -N80-).
If specification “TVV OK” is reached:
–  Press the key.
–  Press keys 0 and 6 for function “End output” and confirm entry with Q key.
–  Switch off ignition.
If “TVV not OK” is shown in display zone 4:
–  Initiate final control diagnosis and activate control element for activated charcoal filter system solenoid valve 1 -N80-: → Rep. Gr.01.
–  Check breather lines to activated charcoal filter are not kinked.
–  Check fuel tank venting → Chapter.
