Installing > < Removing and installing fuel delivery unit

Removing
Condition
l  Fuel tank should be no more than 1/2 full.
  Note
t  If necessary, empty fuel tank using fuel extractor -VAS 5190-.
t  Note safety precautions before beginning work → Chapter.
  WARNING
Fuel system is under pressure! Before loosening hose connections, wrap a cloth around connection. Then release pressure by carefully pulling hose off connection.
–  First check whether a coded radio is fitted. If so, obtain anti-theft coding.
–  With ignition switched off, disconnect battery earth strap.
–  Fold rear bench seat forward.
–  Remove cover from fuel delivery unit.
–  Remove 4-pin connector and supply and return lines from flange.
  Note
Press circlip in to release fuel lines.
   
–  Unscrew union nut using union nut tool -3217-.
Vehicles with all-wheel drive
  A20-0106
–  Disconnect 2-pin connector -1- and supply line hose coupling -2- to suction jet pump.
  Note
Press circlip in to release fuel lines.
  N20-0300
–  Raise fuel delivery unit slightly and remove return line with bracket -arrow- upwards.
Continuation for all vehicles
–  Remove fuel delivery unit and seal from fuel tank opening.
  Note
If delivery unit is to be renewed, drain old delivery unit before disposal.
