Installing
–  Check protective sleeve for damage.
The protective sleeve can only be renewed together with the selector lever cable.
–  Check that the protective sleeve is correctly fitted. Do not install protective sleeve twisted.
–  Do not bend or kink selector lever cable.
l  Selector lever and selector shaft lever are in “P” position and the front wheels are blocked.
   
–  Guide selector cable -3- into mounting bracket and press onto selector lever -2-.
–  Fit new locking plate -1- for selector lever cable onto mounting bracket.
Installation position:
The angled end of the locking plate must face the end of the selector lever cable.
–  Move selector lever from “P” to “2”.
l  Selector lever mechanism and selector lever cable must move freely. Renew selector lever cable → Chapter or repair selector lever mechanism as necessary.
–  Move selector lever to “P” position.
–  Bolt cover with glued-on seal to mounting bracket. When doing this, check position of seal.

–  Tighten nuts -arrows A- to 10 Nm.
–  Then tighten both bolts -arrows B- to 25 Nm.
–  Push protective sleeve of selector lever cable into cover.
–  Install front and middle heat shields for tunnel.
–  Hook selector lever cable into retainer on front heat shield.
–  Reassemble exhaust system. → Repair group 26; Removing and installing parts of exhaust system.

–  Hook selector lever cable -1- into retainer -arrow- on engine.
  N37-0809
–  Loosen bolt -2- on front ball socket -1- of selector lever cable.
–  Place selector lever cable in gearbox support bracket and push onto selector shaft lever -4- using pliers.
–  Fit new securing clip -3- to selector lever cable at gearbox support bracket.
–  Tighten bolt -2- to 13 Nm.
–  Check selector mechanism → Chapter.
