Removing and installing pinion housing
Removing and installing pinion housing
1)  Adjustment work is required if these components are replaced → Chapter.
   
1 - Socket head bolt, 10 Nm
2 - Cover
q   For pinion housing
q   Has additional seal if cover is aluminium → Fig.
q   Has inserted seal if cover is plastic → Fig.
q   Determine according to gearbox code using → ETKA (electronic parts catalogue) → Chapter
3 - Seal
q   Always renew
q   Made of various materials; allocate according to → ETKA (electronic parts catalogue)
4 - Oil filler plug, 30 Nm
5 - Magnet
q   Insert in cover → Item
6 - Seal
q   Not present in plastic cover
7 - Hexagon nut, 45 Nm
q   Insert with locking fluid -D 197 300 A1-
q   Renew
8 - Pinion housing → Note
q   Removing → Anchor
q   Installing → Anchor
q   Repair shaft bevel gear mounting → Chapter
q   Sealing surface was increased for plastic cover → Item → Fig.
q   Determine according to → ETKA (electronic parts catalogue)
9 - Oil filter
q   Tighten to 35 Nm
10 - O-ring
q   Always renew
q   Insert with Haldex coupling oil
11 - O-ring
q   Always renew
q   Coat with gear oil when installing
q   Renewing → Chapter
12 - Shim S3
q   Note thickness
q   Adjustment overview → Chapter
13 - Rear final drive housing → Note
q   Clean locking fluid from threads of studs for securing pinion housing

   
Different versions of pinion housing covers
I - Aluminium cover -A- with additional seal -B-
II - Plastic cover with vulcanised seal -arrow 1-
  Note
t  Allocate seal for oil filler plug -arrow 2- via → ETKA (electronic parts catalogue).
t  Use plastic cover only with pinion housing with wider sealing surface → Fig..

Pinion housing has wider sealing surface for cover -arrow-
Width of pinion housing sealing surface for plastic cover, dimension -a- = 7 mm
Width of pinion housing sealing surface for aluminium cover, dimension -a- = 5 mm
