t  Puller -T10037-
t  Drift -VW 195-
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1332-

Additional required information
t  Workshop Manual Golf 1998 ►, Bora 1999 ►, Running gear, axles, steering - front and four-wheel drive
  Note
All figures show left side of final drive. Removal and installation of flange shaft and oil seal on right-hand side is identical.
Removing
–  Separate left-hand drive shaft at flange and tie to lower transverse link.
–  Separate right-hand drive shaft at flange and tie between upper and lower transverse link.
–  Place drip tray under gearbox.
   
–  Remove flange shaft. To do this, screw lower support of puller -T10037- into housing -arrow-.
–  Pry seal out using assembly lever.
Installing
  A39-0270
–  Drive new seal in onto limit stop.
–  Half-fill space between sealing lip and dust lip with sealing grease for radial oil seal -G 052 128 A1-.
–  Clamp flange shaft in vice with protective jaw covers.
  N39-0787
–  Press retaining ring out of groove in flange shaft using new retaining ring -A-.
–  Drive in flange shaft with plastic mallet.
–  Renew flange shaft/drive shaft seal (pull off protective foil and glue seal into joint).
–  Install drive shaft → Running gear, axles, steering - front and four-wheel drive; Rep. Gr.42.
–  Check gear oil in rear final drive → Chapter.
