Dismantling and assembling bevel box > < Removing and installing rear final drive
Renewing propshaft flange oil seal on rear final drive (final drive removed)
   
Renewing propshaft flange oil seal on rear final drive (final drive removed)
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Support plate -VW 309-
t  Gearbox support -VW 353- (modifying → Chapter).
t  Gearbox support -2004-
t  Release lever -VW 681-
t  Thrust piece -T10019-
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1601-

Removing
   
–  Clamp rear final drive in assembly stand.
–  To secure part, use M12 bolts with 1.5 mm pitch.

–  Remove propshaft flange hexagon nut.
A - Hexagon bolts M10 x 20
  Note
When loosening hexagon nuts for propshaft flange, counterhold using pipe -C- with gearbox bracket -2004- (2nd mechanic).

–  Pull off propshaft flange. If it is difficult to move, use three arm puller -A-.
-A-Three arm puller -Kukko 45/2-
–  Pull out seal using oil seal extractor lever -VW 681-.
Installing
–  Lightly oil new seal around outer circumference and between sealing lips with high-performance oil for Haldex coupling -G 052 175 A1- before installing.

–  Drive new oil seal in flush.
–  Install propshaft flange.

–  Insert new hexagon nuts with locking fluid -D 000 600 A2- and tighten to specified torque → Item.

  Note
When tightening hexagon nuts for propshaft flange, counterhold using pipe -C- with gearbox bracket -2004- (2nd mechanic).
–  Install rear final drive → Chapter.
–  Check oil level in Haldex coupling → Chapter.
–  Specifications → Chapter.
