Securing engine to assembly stand
Securing engine to assembly stand
When working on the engine, secure it to support clamp -VW 313- of the assembly stand using engine and gearbox support -VW 540-.
Procedure
–  Remove gearbox.
–  On vehicles with automatic gearbox, prevent torque converter from “falling out” after engine is separated from gearbox.
   
–  Attach lifting tackle -2024 A- as follows and lift off engine and gearbox jack -V.A.G 1383 A- using workshop crane.
Pulley end: 2nd hole of hook rail in position 1
Flywheel end: 4th hole of hook rail in position 8
  WARNING
The hooks and locating pins must be secured with locking pins.
  Note
t  The holes marked with 1 … 4 of the support bar point to the belt pulley.
t  The holes in the hook rails are counted up from the hook.
–  Secure engine with engine and gearbox support -VW 540- on support clamp -VW 313-.
  Note
First loosen coolant pipe at flywheel end.
