Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Refractometer -T10007-
t  Drip tray -V.A.G 1306-
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331-
t  Spring-type clip pliers -VAS 5024A-

Removing
  Note
Renew gaskets and seals.
–  Drain coolant → Chapter.
–  Pull coolant hose off connection.
   
–  Remove connecting flange -2- securing bolts -1- and remove connecting flange -2- with thermostat -4-.
–  Turn thermostat -4-1/4 turn (90°) to left and remove from connection -2-.
Installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse order. When installing, note the following:
  N19-0232
–  Moisten new O ring -3- with coolant.
–  Insert thermostat -4- into union -2- and turn 1/4 turn (90 °) to right.
  Note
The brace on the thermostat must be almost vertical.
–  Fit connection -2- with thermostat -4- into cylinder block.
–  Tighten securing bolts -1-. Specified torque: 15 Nm.
–  Fill with coolant → Chapter.
