q   Marked by three indentations on circumference of exhaust pipe
q   Exhaust pipe and rear silencer are fitted as standard as one unit. In the event of repair, exhaust pipe and rear silencer are supplied individually with a double clamp to facilitate connection.
q   Using e.g. pneumatic sabre saw -V.A.G 1523A-, cut through exhaust pipe at right angles on the separating point → Fig.

Procedure
–  Position double clamp approx. 5 mm away from mark A -arrow 1-.
  Note
Mark -A- is valid for vehicles with manual and automatic gearboxes.

Installation position of mounting
–  Angled side on foot of mounting -arrow- points in direction of normal travel.

Separating point on exhaust pipe
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Pneumatic sabre saw -V.A.G 1523A-
–  Separate exhaust pipe at right angles at separating point -arrow 2-.
–  Position double clamp -4- (repair solution) when installing at side markings -arrows 1 and 3-. Specified torque: 40 Nm.

Align rear silencer free of stress
–  Mounting pins on exhaust pipe must run parallel to tunnel bridge (dimension -x- equal on left and right).
