Renewing valve stem seals
   
Renewing valve stem seals
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Support bracket -10 - 222 A-
t  Rack -10 - 222 A /1-
t  Spark plug socket and extension -3122 B-
t  Valve spring tool -3362- with thrust piece -3362/1-
t  Valve stem seal puller -3364-
t  Valve stem seal fitting tool -3365-

   
t  Counterhold tool -3415-
t  Pins -3415/1-
t  Counterhold tool -T10028- (only on ATN, AUS, AZD, BCB)
t  Pressure hose -VW 653/3-

Removing
(With cylinder head installed)
–  First remove main drive toothed belt → Chapter.
–  Then remove camshaft housing → Chapter.
–  Remove roller rocker fingers and place onto a clean surface. When doing this, ensure that the roller rocker fingers are not interchanged.
–  Remove spark plugs using spark plug socket and extension -3122 B-.
–  Set piston of respective cylinder to „bottom dead centre“.
   
–  Attach valve spring tool -3362- with thrust piece -3362/1-.
–  Screw pressure hose -VW 653/3- into spark plug thread.
–  Connect pressure hose to compressed air system supplying at least 6 bar and remove valve springs.
–  Pull off valve stem seals using valve stem seal puller -3364-.
Installing
  N15-0081
–  Place plastic sleeve supplied on respective valve stem. This will prevent damage to new valve stem seal.
–  Place new valve stem seal in valve stem seal fitting tool -3365-.
–  Oil valve stem seal sealing lip and press carefully onto the valve guide.
Installing camshaft housing → Chapter.
Installing toothed belt and adjusting valve timing → Chapter.
Further assembly is basically the reverse of the dismantling sequence.
