Checking oil pressure and oil pressure switch
   
Checking oil pressure and oil pressure switch
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Oil pressure tester -V.A.G 1342-
t  Voltage tester -V.A.G 1527B-
t  Auxiliary measuring set -V.A.G 1594A- or auxiliary measuring set -V.A.G 1594C-

  Note
Functional check and repair of the visual and acoustic oil pressure warning → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations.
Test prerequisites
l  Engine oil level OK, checking → Fig..
l  Engine oil temperature at least 80 °C (radiator fan must have run once).
Test procedure
   
–  Remove oil pressure switch -F1- and screw into tester.
–  Screw tester into oil filter bracket in place of oil pressure switch.
–  Connect brown wire of tester to earth (-).
–  Connect voltage tester -V.A.G 1527B- to battery positive (+) and oil pressure switch using cables from auxiliary test set -V.A.G 1594A- or auxiliary test set -V.A.G 1594C-. LED must not light up.
–  If the LED lights up, renew 1.4 bar oil pressure switch -F1-.
If LED does not light up:
–  Start engine and run at idling speed: At 1.2...1.6 bar the LED must light up, otherwise replace oil pressure switch.
–  Check oil pressure at different speeds: Idling: minimum 2.0 bar, 2,000 rpm: 3.0...4.5 bar. above 2,000 rpm: maximal 7.0 bar.
If the specifications are not obtained:
–  Rectify mechanical damage, e.g. damaged bearings.
–  Renew oil filter with pressure relief valve → Item or renew oil pump → Item.
At higher engine speeds, the oil pressure must not exceed 7.0 bar.
If the specification is exceeded:
–  Check the oil passages.
–  If necessary, replace oil filter bracket with pressure relief valve → Item.
