Removing
  Note
t  The camshafts are mounted in the camshaft housing on this engine. Therefore, the main drive toothed belt must be removed before the camshaft housing can be removed.
t  The camshaft housing sealing surface must not be reworked.
t  Removing and installing camshafts → Chapter.
Procedure
   
–  Remove fuse No. 28 (fuel pump) from fuse holder.
–  First remove main drive toothed belt → Chapter.
–  Pull 4-pin connectors off ignition coils with final output stages → Chapter.
–  Pull connector off activated charcoal filter solenoid valve 1 -N80-, Hall sender -G40- and camshaft adjustment valve 1 -N205-.
–  Remove wiring guide from camshaft housing.

–  Unclip wiring harness and wire to oil pressure switch -arrows-.
–  Remove high-pressure pump → Chapter.
–  Remove securing bolt for toothed belt rear guard (near right-hand lifting eye).
–  Loosen camshaft housing bolts from outside to inside, alternately and diagonally and remove.
–  Carefully lift camshaft housing off.
