Removing and installing high-pressure pump
Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331-
  W00-0427
t  Spring-type clip pliers -VAS 5024A-
Prerequisite
Engine must be cold.
Removing
  WARNING
Fuel supply and high-pressure lines are under pressure! Wear eye protection and gloves to avoid injuries and skin contact. Before loosening connections, wrap a cloth around the joint. Then release pressure by carefully pulling hose off connection or by carefully loosening high-pressure pipe.

–  Pull supply hose -1- off high-pressure pump -4-.
–  Remove union nut -2-.
–  Unscrew union bolt -3- out of high-pressure pump -4-.
  Note
Catch escaping fuel in a cloth.
–  Remove securing bolts -arrows-.
–  Turn high-pressure pump -4- anti-clockwise and at the same time turn the high-pressure line -5- out of high-pressure pump.
–  Remove high-pressure pump -4- from camshaft housing.
Installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse order. When installing, note the following:

t  Ensure high-pressure pump is seated correctly in camshaft lugs.
t  The high-pressure pump O-ring must always be renewed.
t  Always renew high-pressure line.

–  Insert high-pressure pump -4- in camshaft housing.
–  Turn high-pressure pump -4- anti-clockwise (approx. 15°).
–  Install high-pressure line on intake manifold lower part and tighten union bolt -2- hand-tight.
–  Now turn high-pressure pump -4- clockwise. Whilst doing this, guide high-pressure line -5- in twisting motion into high-pressure pump.
–  Screw union bolt -3- into high-pressure pump -4- and tighten hand-tight to stop.

–  Tighten high-pressure pump -4- securing bolts -arrows- to 10 Nm.
–  First screw in union nut -2- and union bolt -3- hand tight and then tighten to 14 Nm.
–  Connect supply hose -1- to high-pressure pump -4-.
