Securing engine to assembly stand
Securing engine to assembly stand
To carry out repair measures, secure engine on support clamp -VW 313- of assembly stand using engine and gearbox support -VW 540-. If exhaust manifold has been removed from cylinder head, engine bracket -3269- can be used. Otherwise use engine and gearbox support supplement -VW 540/1 B-. Engine can also be secured on engine and gearbox support -VAS 6095-.
Procedure
–  Unbolt gearbox.
Vehicles with automatic gearbox
–  Prevent torque converter from “falling out” after engine has been separated from gearbox.
Continuation for all vehicles
If exhaust manifold is fitted:

–  Bolt engine and gearbox support -VW 540- to cylinder block with three parts of engine and gearbox support supplement -VW 540/1 B-. For lower right-hand securing point -arrow-, use a commercially available M12×160 bolt with a tensile strength of 8.8.
Modifying engine bracket -3269-
With the introduction of the VR5 engine the engine bracket -3269- must be modified by drilling additional holes. The holes must be handled with corrosion protection.
