Modified track rod ball joints
Modified track rod ball joints
The manufacturing process for the track rod ball joints has been optimised. This has resulted in changes to the external shape and length of the threaded shaft.
It was necessary to modify the track rods to match the track rod ball joints → Chapter.
Was introduced in the Wolfsburg factory from
   Vehicle ID No. 1J WW 085 662;
in the Mosel plant from
   Vehicle ID No. 1J WP 050 833;
in the Bratislava plant from
   Vehicle ID No. 1J WD 039 151;
in the Brussels plant from 1J WB 062 360.
The modified track rod ball joints can be recognised by the following features.
   
A - Right track rod ball joint
1 - Hexagon flats on threaded shaft, 19 mm AF
   Dimension -a- = 94 ± 0.5 mm
   Identification -A- for right
B - Left track rod ball joint
1 - Hexagon flats on threaded shaft, 19 mm AF
   Dimension -a- = 94 ± 0.5 mm
   Identification -B- for left

Identifying features for the previous track rod ball joints
1 - Flats for spanner on the shaft, marked with -R- or -L-
   spanner size 22 mm
   Dimension -a- = 74 - 1 mm
   The shaft -arrow- is round
  WARNING
These track rod ball joints must not be fitted to track rods with a length of -a- = 318.9 mm!
