Removing and installing poly V-belt   Caution t  Before removing, mark the top side and direction of rotation of the poly V-belt. When installing, ensure correct fitting position and direction of rotation. If the belt is installed in the wrong position or against direction of rotation, the belt will be destroyed! t  Check poly V-belt → Chapter. If faults are found, it is essential for the poly V-belt to be renewed. This will avoid possible breakdowns or operating problems. Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Locking pin -T10060 A- Removing

–  Remove securing screws -arrows- and remove centre engine compartment cover.

–  Unscrew hexagon nut and unclip securing clips -arrows-. –  Remove right engine compartment cover.

–  Remove securing bolt -arrow-. –  Lift off engine covers -A- and -B- and remove. –  Mark direction of rotation of poly V-belt if it is to be reused.

–  Using a flat ring spanner (16 mm), swivel tensioning roller in direction of arrow until tensioning roller can be locked.

–  Lock tensioning device with locking pin -T10060 A--arrow-. –  Remove poly V-belt. Installing   Caution t  When installing used poly V-belts, observe the direction of rotation marked upon removal! t  Before installing poly V-belt, ensure that all ancillaries (e.g. alternator, air conditioner compressor, vane pump) are secured tightly. t  When fitting belt, ensure it is located correctly in the belt pulleys! –  Fit poly V-belt. Belt routing, vehicles with power steering vane pump → Chapter. Belt routing, vehicles with power steering vane pump and air conditioner compressor → Chapter. –  Remove locking pin -T10060 A-. –  Tighten threaded connections to specified torques → Chapter. –  Start engine and check that belt is running correctly. –  Switch off engine. –  Install centre and right engine compartment covers.
