  Note
t  A freewheel belt pulley can be retrofitted in vehicles fitted with a Bosch alternator ► 04.99.
t  A freewheel belt pulley cannot be retrofitted in vehicles with a Valeo alternator ► 04.99.
t  Valeo alternators must be replaced complete by a Bosch alternator.
t  On alternators 05.99 ► the belt pulley with freewheel is the same on all alternators used (different manufacturers).
Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1332-
  W00-0428
t  Adapter -VAS 3400-
–  Remove fitted poly-V-belt pulley → Chapter.
–  Insert multi-point adapter -VAS 3400- into freewheel belt pulley.
–  First screw freewheel belt pulley by hand onto alternator drive shaft as far as it will go.
To install freewheel belt pulley, set up torque wrench -V.A.G 1332- as follows:
  W00-0168
–  Release socket drive -1- and pull off grip -2-.
–  Turn grip -2- of torque wrench by 180 degrees and reinsert socket drive.
–  Set turning direction of torque wrench to anti-clockwise on socket drive -1-.
–  Tighten threaded connection to specified torque setting → Chapter.
–  Attach hexagon socket (6 mm) to alternator drive shaft.
–  Counterhold multi-point adapter -VAS 3400- with ring spanner (17 mm) and tighten freewheel belt pulley to specified torque setting by turning alternator drive shaft anti-clockwise with torque wrench → Chapter.

–  Clip protective cap onto freewheel belt pulley.
