Note| The concept is presented using the example of a one-level airbag module. For two-stage airbag modules, the process of determining whether an additional earth cable must be fitted in the vehicle is carried out at the same time. |
| – | Check whether an earth cable is attached to the front passenger airbag housing. |
| t | On a front passenger airbag with earth cable -1-, the wiring harness -2- is three-conductor, an additional cable -3- is also attached to the stud -4-. |
| t | On a front passenger airbag without earth cable -5- the wiring harness -6- is two-conductor, there is no additional cable attached to the stud -7-. |
| Route an additional earth cable in the vehicle if the front passenger airbag does not have an earth cable: |
Note| For the following work use a cable (wire cross section 1 mm, length 600 mm) from the Wiring harness repair set -VAS 1978- or Wiring harness repair set -VAS 1978A-. |
| – | Secure one end of the earth cable with the bolt -1- on the right hand side of the front passenger airbag. |
| – | Fit the earth cable properly up to the right-hand side of the front passenger footwell. |
Note| If needed, extend the earth wire with the appropriate materials from wiring harness repair set -VAS 1978- or wiring harness repair set -VAS 1978A-. |
| – | Connect the other end of the earth cable to the earth bolt -2-. |
