Installing > < Removing and installing dash panel
Removing
Removing
–  Disconnect vehicle battery → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27.
–  Remove driver side airbag → Chapter.
–  Remove steering wheel → Running gear, axles, steering; Rep. gr.48.
–  Remove dash panel end trim → Chapter.
–  Remove A-pillar middle trim → Chapter
–  Remove upper A-pillar upper trim → Chapter
Golf 2004 ►
–  Release sill panel mouldings from body in transition to bottom A-pillar trims:
t  2-door model → Chapter
t  4-door model → Chapter
–  Remove A-pillar lower trim on front passenger side → Chapter
–  Remove bonnet release lever → Rep. gr.55
–  Remove A-pillar lower trim on driver side → Chapter
–  Remove centre cover (Golf 2004 ►) → Chapter
–  Remove centre console:
t  Basic (Golf 2004 ►) → Chapter
t  Highline (Golf 2004 ►) → Chapter
–  Remove dash panel centre vent.
t  Vehicles with no Climatronic → Chapter
t  Vehicles with Climatronic → Chapter
–  Remove dash panel middle trim → Chapter.
Golf 2009 ►
–  Remove dash panel middle trim (Golf 2009 ►) → Chapter
–  Remove air conditioner controls unit / heater controls unit trim (Golf 2009 ►) → Chapter
–  Remove centre cover (Golf 2009 ►) → Chapter
  Note
On the Golf 2009 ► there is no need to remove the centre console to remove the dash panel. All that is required is for the centre console to be loosened and pushed back.
–  Loosen centre console:
t  Basic (Golf 2009 ►) → Chapter
t  Highline (Golf 2009 ►) → Chapter
All vehicles
–  Remove glove compartment → Chapter
Vehicles with radio system
–  Remove radio → Communication; Rep. gr.91.
Golf 2009 ►
–  Remove storage compartment in centre of dash panel (Golf 2009 ►) → Chapter
All vehicles
Vehicles with navigation
–  Remove display and controls unit for navigation system → Communication; Rep. gr.91.
Vehicles with Climatic or Climatronic
–  Remove controls for Climatic or Climatronic → Heating, air conditioning system; Rep. gr.87.
–  Vehicles with Climatic, disconnect connector on centre vent temperature sender -G191- or on vehicles with Climatronic, disconnect left vent temperature sender -G150- and right vent temperature sender -G151- → Heater, air conditioning system; Rep. gr.87
Vehicles with heating
–  Remove heater controls → Heater, air conditioning system; Rep. gr.80.
Golf 2009 ►
–  Remove dash panel centre vent (Golf 2009 ►) → Chapter
All vehicles
–  Remove steering column trim → Chapter
–  Remove steering column electronics control unit -J527- → Electrical system; Rep. gr.94.
–  Remove airbag coil connector and return ring with slip ring -F138- → Electrical system; Rep. gr.94.
–  Remove steering angle sender -G85- → Electrical system; Rep. gr.94.
–  Remove turn signal switch -E2- → Electrical system; Rep. gr.94.
–  Remove windscreen wiper switch -E- → Electrical system; Rep. gr.94.
–  Remove dash panel insert → Electrical system; Rep. gr.90.
–  Remove left trim on driver side → Chapter.
–  Remove right trim on driver side → Chapter.
–  Remove footwell cover on driver side → Chapter (if fitted).
Vehicles with mobile telephone holder on dash panel
–  Disconnect wiring harness to mobile telephone holder → Communication; Rep. gr.91
All vehicles
–  Remove lower bolt from fuse holder in dash panel on driver side → Rep. gr.97
–  If sunlight penetration photosensor -G107- or sunlight penetration photosensor 2 -G134- is fitted, remove it → Heating, air conditioning; Rep. gr.87.
Golf 2009 ►
–  Remove knee airbag (Golf 2009 ►) → Chapter
   
–  Remove the two bolts -arrows- (1.5 Nm).
  N70-10524
All vehicles
–  Remove the two bolts -1- (9 Nm) from front passenger airbag.
–  Disconnect wiring harness from front passenger airbag.
–  Unscrew bolt -2- (3 Nm).
–  Remove bolts -3- and -4- (3 Nm).

   
–  Unscrew bolt -1- (3 Nm).
–  Remove the two bolts -2- (8 Nm) above the tunnel.

   
–  Remove bolts -1-, -2- and -3- (3 Nm).

   
–  Pull dash panel out of mountings -1- in area of transition to windscreen.
–  Disconnect respective wiring harnesses (depending on vehicle equipment) and take dash panel out of vehicle with aid of a second mechanic.
  Note
When installing dash panel, ensure that dash panel is positioned exactly in mountings -1-.
