Removing rear final drive
–  Remove spare wheel as well as entire spare wheel well.
   
–  Remove the two rubber plugs -arrows- in luggage compartment floor.
–  Remove both rear final drive mounting bolts from above through holes -arrows-.

–  Disconnect exhaust system at clamp -arrows- and remove rear part of exhaust system → Rep. gr.26.
–  Remove rear flexible coupling → Chapter.
–  Remove both drive shafts → Running gear, axles, steering; Rep. gr.42.

–  Remove cross member -1-. Unbolt both front bolts from subframe so that all cross member bolts -arrows- can be removed → Rep. gr.42.

–  Remove anti-roll bar → Rep. gr.42.

–  Support propshaft with block of wood on tunnel cross piece.

–  Remove connector -2- from control unit on top.

–  Unclip both gearbox breather hoses -arrows- from subframe.
–  Position engine and gearbox jack -V.A.G 1383 A- with universal gearbox support -V.A.G 1359/2- only under final drive and secure final drive.

–  Remove securing bolt -arrow- from front bonded rubber mounting for final drive.
–  Lower final drive slightly using engine and gearbox jack -V.A.G 1383 A- and carefully pull to rear out of subframe.
