Removing and installing cylinder head cover > < Cylinder head

1 - Toothed belt guard upper part
2 - Toothed belt
q   Mark direction of rotation before removing.
q   Check for wear.
q   Do not kink.
q   Removing, installing and tensioning → Chapter.
3 - 10 Nm
q   Renew.
4 - 25 Nm
5 - 100 Nm
6 - Camshaft pulley
7 - Hub
q   With sender wheel
q   Use counterhold tool -T10051- to loosen and tighten.
q   To remove, use puller -T10052-.
q   Removing and installing.
8 - Rear toothed belt guard
9 - Sealing grommet
q   Renew if damaged.
10 - Hall sender -G40-
q   For camshaft position
q   To remove, unbutton sealing grommet → Item from rear toothed belt guard.
11 - Stud
q   15 Nm
12 - Cylinder head bolt
q   Observe sequence when loosening and tightening → Chapter.
q   Before installing, place washers in cylinder head → Item.
13 - Fuel return line
14 - Fuel supply line
15 - Coolant line
16 - Cylinder head cover
q   Before fitting, thoroughly clean sealing surface of cylinder head with clean cloth.
17 - Pressure regulating valve
q   For crankcase ventilation.
18 - To turbocharger.
19 - Cap
q   Renew seal if damaged.
20 - Seal
q   Renew if damaged.
21 - 10 Nm
q   Observe tightening sequence → Chapter.
22 - Gasket for cylinder head cover
q   Renew together with cylinder head cover only.
q   Before fitting, seal transitions with „AMV 174 004 01“ → Chapter
23 - 20 Nm
24 - Lifting eye
25 - Unit injector
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
26 - 10 Nm
27 - Central connector
q   For unit injector
28 - From brake servo
29 - Tandem pump
q   For fuel and vacuum supply
q   Check → Chapter.
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
q   Must not be dismantled.
30 - Supply hose
q   From fuel filter.
q   White or with white marking.
q   Check for secure seating.
q   Secure with spring-type clips.
31 - Return hose
q   To fuel filter
q   Blue or with blue marking.
q   Check for secure seating.
q   Secure with spring-type clips.
32 - Seal
q   Renew.
33 - Bracket
34 - 20 Nm
35 - Cylinder head
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
q   After renewing, renew entire coolant.
36 - Cylinder head gasket
q   Renew.
q   Note marking → Fig..
q   After renewing, renew entire coolant.
37 - Glow plug
q   15 Nm
q   Check → Chapter.
38 - Tensioning roller
q   Remove engine support in order to remove and install → Chapter.
39 - 20 Nm + turn (45°)

   
Checking cylinder head for distortion
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Straight edge
t  Feeler gauges
Max. permissible distortion: 0.1 mm.
  Note
Reworking diesel cylinder heads is not permissible.

Cylinder head gasket identification
t  Part No. = arrow 1
t  Production control code = arrow 2 (can be disregarded)
t  Holes = arrow 3
  Note
t  Different thicknesses of cylinder head gasket are fitted depending on the piston projection. When renewing gasket, install new gasket with same identification.
t  Piston projection at TDC must be determined when installing new pistons or a short engine. → Chapter
