Renewing valve stem seals
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331/-
t  Valve lever -VW 541/1A- with press tool -VW 541/6-
t  Valve stem seal fitting tool -3365-
t  Valve assembly device -2036-
t  Valve stem seal puller -3364-

Removing
(With cylinder head installed)
–  Remove camshafts → Chapter.
–  Remove unit injectors → Chapter.
–  Set piston of respective cylinder to top dead centre (TDC).
–  Bolt valve assembly device -2036- tightly onto cylinder head.
   
–  Remove valve springs using valve lever -VW 541/1A- and press tool -VW 541/6-.
  Note
The valves are supported by the piston crown.
–  Pull off valve stem seals using valve stem seal puller -3364-.
Installing
  N15-10039
–  Place the plastic sleeve -A- supplied on the respective valve stem. This will prevent the new valve stem seal -B- being damaged.
–  Place new valve stem seal in valve stem seal fitting tool -3365-.
–  Oil valve stem seal sealing lip and press carefully onto valve guide to stop.
