t  Removing and installing exhaust manifold → Chapter
t  After working on the exhaust system ensure that the system is not under stress, and that there is sufficient clearance to the bodywork. If necessary, loosen clamp and align silencer and exhaust pipe so that sufficient clearance is maintained to the bodywork and the support rings are evenly loaded.
t  Renew self-locking nuts.
   
  Note
Rear silencer -A- only fitted on special model „Golf Speed“.
1 - Mounting
q   Renew if damaged.
2 - 25 Nm
3 - 25 Nm
4 - 
5 - Mounting
q   With retaining ring.
q   Renew if damaged.
6 - Rear silencer
q   For repairs, renew individually.
7 - Mounting
q   With retaining ring.
q   Renew if damaged.
8 - Separating point
q   For repair cases
q   Marked by three indentations on circumference of exhaust pipe
q   Front and rear silencers are installed as a single component during production. In repair cases, the front and rear silencers are supplied individually with a repair clamp for connecting them.
q   Cutting exhaust pipe → Chapter.
9 - Front silencer
q   For repairs, renew individually.
10 - Clamp
Specified torque and installation position → Chapter
11 - Threaded union
q   Tighten bolted connections evenly. Specified torque and installation position → Chapter
12 - From front exhaust pipe
