Checking valve timing > < Cylinder head

  Note
t  When installing an exchange cylinder head, all the contact surfaces between the support elements, roller rocker arms and the cams must be oiled before installing the camshaft housing.
t  The plastic protectors fitted to protect the open valves must be removed only immediately before the cylinder head is fitted.
t  If the cylinder head is replaced, all the coolant in the system must also be renewed.
t  All bearing and running surfaces must be oiled before assembly.
t  Dismantling and assembling intake manifold (engine code BCA) → Chapter.
t  Dismantling and assembling intake manifold (engine codes BUD, CGGA) → Chapter.
   
1 - Toothed belt guard upper part
2 - Main drive toothed belt
q   Mark direction of rotation before removing.
q   Check for wear.
q   Do not kink.
q   Toothed belt routing → Fig..
q   Removing, installing and tensioning → Chapter.
3 - Coupling drive toothed belt
q   Mark direction of rotation before removing.
q   Check for wear.
q   Do not kink.
q   Removing, installing and tensioning → Chapter.
4 - 10 Nm
5 - Camshaft housing cover
q   Only for engine codes BUD and CGGA
6 - 10 Nm
7 - Cable guide
q   Bolt to camshaft housing with 8 Nm torque.
8 - Stud, 6 Nm
q   For air filter housing.
q   Only for engine code BCA
9 - Coolant pipe
q   Only for engine code BCA
10 - Hall sender -G40-
11 - O-ring
q   Renew.
12 - Bracket
13 - Roller rocker finger
q   Check roller bearing for ease of movement.
q   Oil contact surface.
q   When installing, secure to supporting element using securing clip.
14 - Lifting eye
15 - 20 Nm
16 - Dowel pins
17 - Support element
q   Do not interchange.
q   With hydraulic valve clearance compensation.
q   Oil contact surface.
q   Before installing, check camshaft axial clearance → Fig..
18 - Cylinder head bolt
q   Renew.
q   Follow installation instructions and sequence when loosening and tightening → Chapter.
19 - Oil pressure switch -F1-, 25 Nm
q   Check → Chapter.
q   If seal is leaking, nip open and renew.
20 - Cylinder head gasket
q   Renew.
q   Metal gasket.
q   After renewing, renew entire coolant.
21 - Cylinder head
q   Removing and installing → Chapter.
q   Check for distortion → Fig..
q   Sealing surfaces to camshaft housing must be oil and grease free.
q   After renewing, renew entire coolant.
q   For vehicles model year 2006 ► no exhaust gas recirculation system is installed.
22 - Coupling drive tensioning roller
q   Check → Chapter.
q   Tensioning toothed belts → Chapter.
23 - 20 Nm
24 - Toothed belt guard - rear
25 - Camshaft housing
q   Removing and installing → Chapter.
q   Remove sealant residue.
q   Carefully clean sealing surfaces. They must be oil and grease free.
q   Before installing, coat with sealant -D 154 103 A1-.
q   When installing, fit vertically from above onto studs and dowel pins.
26 - 10 Nm + 1/4 turn (90°) further
q   Renew.
q   Tighten from inside outwards.

   
Checking cylinder head for distortion
Max. permissible distortion: 0.05 mm.
